In teaching there appear to be many "fads" that we as teachers go through. At the time of this website it was the idea of "Grit". Fast forward 2 years and we no longer can use that word. Grit implies that the student is in complete control when that is not necessary the case.
Okay, what about growth mindset then? This idea was brought to me during a university course on reflective writing, when drawn to discuss how I can be ready for each new situation I come across in terms of new schools, new classroom spaces, new parents, new admin, and new students as a result of no seniority.
I expressed concerns over these scenarios and then paused to reflect and the solution of growth mindset came to me. Approaching each new situation with a growth mindset vs a fixed mindset will help to do me wonders when preparing myself to these new scenarios in which I do not know about yet.
